2026 Kingdom Builders Missions Trip
The Barcelona Blessing
Trip Overview
Northside is partnering with Builders International and AGWM missionaries John and Brandi Carrano on the Barcelona International Church project, where they will completely renovate a new building in downtown Barcelona that will become the fourth location of this growing church. In a church with already 90 nationalities represented in the congregation, this new building will greatly increase outreach and ministerial opportunities throughout this large and broken city of Spain!

Cultural Expectations in Barcelona
- Barcelona speaks two languages - Spanish & Catalan
- Barcelona is a very international city. You'll get to see, hear, and meet so many different cultures.
- You will be walking a LOT around the city. Enjoy the architecture!
- You will also get to experience the metro & bus system while you are in country.
- On escalators, stand on the right side since people walk on the left side.
- Meals will be later than in the States. Breakfast is around 8:30am, lunch is around 1:30pm, and dinner around 8:30pm.
- In Spain, they give two kisses on the cheeks instead of a handshake. ALWAYS GO LEFT FIRST!
- If you have to go to the grocery store, you bag your own groceries.
- Pickpocketing is a BIG problem in Barcelona. Always be on guard with your belongings.
- Americans tend to be much louder than Spaniards. Be aware of your voice in restaurants, cafes, and in the streets!
- We're going in the summer, so it will be VERY hot. Central air conditioning is not as common there.
- Spain is a very secular nation. Less than 1% of the nation are evangelical Christians.
- Catalans may seems cold at first, but kindness goes a long way. They have big hearts once you get to know them. Be kind everywhere you go, and they will respond.
Things to know before getting on the plane:
- Make sure you have more than 6 months left before you passport expires. Many countries will not allow entry if the passport has 6 months or less left to expiry.
- Make copies of your passport.
- Call your bank and inform them you will be leaving the country.
- Do NOT bring US ($) cash to exchange! You call pull euros out easily in Barcelona at ATM's.
Travel Day
- Carry Dramamine, earplugs, and a jacket/sweater on the plane to help you sleep.
- Bring an extra set of clothes in your carry-on in case your luggage is delayed.
- Always have your passport and ticket on you. Bring a second ID (drivers license) just in case.
- Once you grab your luggage, go out the baggage claim exit (there's only one!) and a team member will be there to pick up the team.
Packing List:
- Refillable water bottle
- COMFORTABLE walking shoes
- Adapter for European plugs
- Sunday attire (business casual)
- Sunblock
- Electronics & chargers
- Earplugs
- Bible & Journal
- Toiletries
- Prescription medications for your entire stay (pack this in your carry-on)
- Sunglasses
- Construction Specific: Close-toed shoes, clothing that can get dirty, etc. Also, the project supervisor requires everyone to wear safety shoes at all times at the job site. Hard hats, gloves, masks, and eye protection are provided at the project site, but everyone is required to bring appropriate footwear. They don't have to be steel toe, but they do need to be ATSM certified construction boots.
- It will be hot and humid during our time there. Shorts and dresses would be appropriate.
Where will we be staying?
Our team will stay in Airbnb-style apartments near the project site. If the apartments aren't within walking distance, transportation is provided. The missionaries use different apartment complexes based on availability, with examples linked here.
- The apartments will include:
- Wifi
- Washing machine (dryer cannot be guaranteed, a dryer rack will be provided)
- Microwave, Fridge, Stove-top
- Most devices will only require an adaptor. Some devices such as curling irons & hair dryers, may need a converter due to voltage differences. (Spain uses Type C outlets: two round pins; Type F outlets: two round pins with grounding clips) Adaptors and converters can be purchased on Amazon.
Meals
We'll share some meals at the apartment and most evenings at local restaurants. Breakfast foods will be provided for the team to prepare, and a few dinners will be cooked at the apartment with provided ingredients. The rest of the meals will be at the job site or in local restaurants. Plus, there are plenty of cozy cafes nearby for a special coffee or snack.
Cultural Day
The fun day will consist of a tour of Barcelona, lunch, and opportunities for shopping. The team will get to see either the Sagrada Familia or La Pedrera, and historical areas in Barcelona.
Again, there will be a lot of walking, so make sure and have comfortable walking shoes!
